Making History

This has been a historic season for several different reasons. It’s the first time I’ve seen a professional basketball organization (my team) caught embezzling money. This season also marks the first time I’ve witnessed 10+ roster changes on my team! We even managed to have our main sponsor decide to back out of their contract with the team in the middle of the quarterfinal playoff round! Finding the success we have through some of these difficult situations, however, has made this one of the most rewarding seasons in my career.

Just a few days ago, our team was able to make history on a much more positive note. For the first time in the history of Polish basketball, the number 8 seed has defeated the number 1 seed in the playoffs. With all of the problems surrounding the team, no one expected us to make the playoffs, let alone win a playoff series.

Although we are always in a position to be judged and criticized, we have done an amazing job of focusing on our progress and goals as a team, disregarding the ‘outside noise’ of those not directly associated with the team. We aren’t surprised to be where we are, and we aren’t satisfied with simply doing more than what was expected from other people.

Looking back at this season, I’m sure everyone will greatly appreciate the things we’ve accomplished. Writing a chapter of Polish basketball history will always make us proud. However, now is not the time to celebrate our past achievements. Now its time to keep pushing for the championship most of us have never had. We will continue our journey as we have from the very first day. Step by step, game by game, focusing on what is directly in front of us.

We want the gold, and nothing less.
